Interested in how camera moves and lighting setups actually work on set? This course covers the fundamentals of the grip craft—the department responsible for building, rigging, and safely executing the physical side of every shot you see on screen. It is designed for hands-on problem solvers who enjoy understanding the mechanics behind the camera.
This course will introduce students to the craft of the motion picture and television grip technician, beginning with the study of basic concepts in rigging, mounting, and carpentry. Students will learn industry terminology and the basic handling of tools, equipment, and expendables of the craft. A strong emphasis will be placed on workplace safety and professionalism. Participants must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
This course will give students the baseline skillset and networks needed to start earning paid work experience in the Grip department on non-union productions.
